Well, you couldn't have.
You'd be better off working.
Uh, Bob.
Yeah, Bob.
Before I start working and looking at this ambassador, do you know whether we can get by with a shorty today, or do we have any conversations?
Yeah, yeah, fine.
Let's go.
Another man was killed in an accident.
We don't know how.
We'll find out.
Are you remembering?
I gave Dwight the note.
I don't know whether he said that Goldquake's door will be 95 on the 21st of October.
No.
95.
Well, let's do something for the old man.
As I said, you don't have to talk to them.
You know, you should go over and attend after the previous interview and talk about how it's going to be, because they understand that you, you know, as things come up today, you're going to have to...
The way it's going to be done, we should receive them.
I should receive their credentials, then I will escort them out to the door and get my plane.
I think that's what I was going to ask.
So that I can walk with them.
Well, thank you very much.
No problem.
I don't see what's going on with that, because look, she said, I don't know if that's not coping, it's getting changed.
That's the only one on here.
Animal.
That's the animal, she said, and Gucci.
What the hell happened to the ambassador filter that's from Copings?
It's new.
And where are all the moments?
And they're in the mail, yeah.
My gosh, Mrs. Marcus is going to be here again.
October 22nd, 24th.
We haven't had the request for that.
Bastards sneak this stuff in all the time.
We'll be hand carrying a letter from President Marcus to you.
I'll have to see her.
First cousin, that's no coincidence.
Well, I will see if I can see if I got the map here.
Do you know what that was?
You'll aim on that.
You won't be here, you'll be in Florida.
My first time to be here.
What is the date?
What is the date of the day of the week?
Is that why you're holding for a press?
I think it is Thursday.
It is?
See, that's the Al Smith dinner the night before.
And at one point, we were considering doing that, and we were in the Department of Management at the time.
But you aren't doing that.
So we were hoping the 20th and 21st were as a test time as possible.
But I'd be happy, free, if I decided to do it.
Yeah, but you got the Republican women the next morning, and then two women.
It's a busy deal in Florida.
I didn't expect you to do it.
No, no, no, no, no.
That's what I want to do.
It's one of the few things I want to do, you know.
I seldom want to do any of these things, but I'd like to do it with the old man.
But do you want me to find out how he is, whether he's really still sharp and still able to do it?
But I could find that out, because the V&A was going around, so...
He's calling, because all the guys think to have something for the, for the court.
You know, I don't want to do something for the court, to give the old man a birthday party, but the court shows not care about the father.
We, uh, what I was going to say is that, uh, what we're going to be saying now about the 21st, I think, well into that is that, uh, I'm sure that that is exactly what my mind is at night.
The reason being that we see everyone still be in and abroad.
We still would not be ready to say anything about the, you know,
How about maybe because you're breaking your tradition and having for lunch?
Yeah, well, that would help you with regard to pressing.
When you were pressing on the camera.
Oh, if you're doing that, you can't do it that way.
Well, first I'll find out how, you know, what shape it is.
You may want to consider whether you really want to do something with someone in the locker room at this point, too.
Well, it would hurt them.
I mean, the point is, they do, of course, different bond issues for our barn.
But the point is, the President said that everything we do is for the purpose of building the dam longer.
So she did something private with her daughter then?
The old man.
Yeah, we could do something private for him.
A 95th birthday for somebody who's still practicing.
But, you know, we could get him something and send it to him.
Let me find out what she did anyway without committing anything.
Because last year, you know, he had a good job.
The other thing we could do is get the money back first of all.
You know what I mean?
He probably just would come down and talk us to have a damn lunch.
Oh, sir, if you had any doubt, of course, I know they may be planning some big celebration.
No, I mean, he could just come down.
He'd sit here in the office.
He'd get the picture taken.
It's not even a birthday.
It's not the president's picture.
He's an old man.
I don't even know the law firm.
That's not so bad.
He's not really kind of part of it in the sense that he's not one of the...
He never is going there.
And they know part of it is...
They want to hit you on the office.
But I think if you do anything, it would almost have to be private.
And Gore wouldn't want a picture on paper.
He'd be so thrilled.
Particularly if it were in a time of day when it packs around or if either of the girls have to be around.
He's so fond of that.
We could have him in just to pop in or something.
I'm going to go out and do this recording of things.
And I'll send a brief.
Well, that's the day you do the court compromise.
Is that next week?
Oh, that doesn't count.
I'm not going to.
I hope the other court will come on here Tuesday or one.
Well, I'm going to do one one day and one another.
That's my present plan.
But that's good.
You don't go off and talk to them.
I don't think we should buy one, actually.
Do you agree with me or not?
So we were holding it so that you could.
I don't think there's probably another problem.
And on an in-office, not a TV.
What's the following, 28th or 27th?
28th is tea time.
We do it on Wednesdays rather than Thursdays.
On the 27th you might be ready to... Well, our routine on the 26th is clear so you can do it.
But the 27th is an office thing, right sir?
Both of these court things will be in office things.
Okay, good.
Did you hear that Don Kevill's parents were killed in the accident last night?
First of all, we don't know details.
Don't know details?
Well, all they know is maybe the wild animals.
We don't know yet.
It feels like we can't tell.
Wow, that's nice that you had his father in before.
You remember you had his father in?
Yeah.
He was so proud that he had his father in.
And his office got a picture.
Been quite a few months ago.
He was so proud that his father was just seen.
Yeah.
Of course the trouble is, he's gallivanting around as hard as I can.
I mean, he's a turkey.
You know, do you have another?
No, sure.
When talking with Tony Rousey, he said he, he talked with Montelli, he said he didn't change the pattern on the suit.
Do they seem different?
Oh, yes, you do.
He came to, uh, he made the, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the, uh, the, uh,
If it's cutting down, they can do them for those favorite ones that you have.
But he also, the latter part of November, he will have a lot of new, isolated material, and he wants you to look it up.
Well, that's the best thing to do anyway.
I don't think so.
I'll tell you, when they start offering a coat, we won't put it on.
No, you can't.
Yeah, I see.
That's it.
Yeah.
They took it back.
Somebody who was a photographer told me you did the candy.
Yeah, well I suppose what we meant was they didn't change the lapel or something like that.
Keep those kids that wrapped his hand after you shook hands with him in Michigan.
He didn't want anybody to touch him.
Yeah.
So, I'm going to go check this out.
Uh-huh.
Who was that inside?
I don't know.
Was that a note or something?
And he talked to them before he went.
Oh, before he went.
Yeah.
Saturday.
Yeah.
And he had...
One other thing I was going to mention, but it was a weird problem with all of our strong-hearted cabinet, you know, wanting to help with the rest.
You mentioned Rensselaer.
He came in, when we did talk to Schultz, and said he thought he should cancel all of his political appearances.
Now he's taking this position.
And I have to apologize to you, John, for not giving you all this information.
I'm supposed to be in San Francisco, but I have no reason to be here.
And I said, no, you should do that.
And I said, you don't have to talk about Republicans.
You just talk about the president's programs and so forth and so on.
What I'm getting at is this, about we've got a situation in there where there are just too damn many people who want to go out and produce an operation in Iran, so on and so forth.
You know what I mean?
And do that.
Now, somebody's got to stand up and do this thing.
So I told them, I want you to know that I told them to go back on it.
He should go to that dinner.
He should go there and actually just talk about the President's leadership for you, what you're working on, how important it is, and so forth.
And if you try to ever bring yourself to talking a little about the President instead of yourself, it's not so significant.
He can say, he doesn't have to talk about it in the House or the Council, but I'll talk about it in the City.
Captain, you've seen the great decisions we've made.
It's fantastic how all of our people suddenly get non... as soon as they get in the press, they become non-political.
They're not that fantastic.
They're not really.
A lot do.
We have a hell of a time, I must say, but bless his soul, before he stands, it's a great excitement.
He really stepped up at the moment, which is why I'm nothing but a Russian.
Right, Bob?
Yes, indeed.
And he's done it.
I can see how it's going there.
Elliot on the political thing stands up a hell of a lot better than most.
Against a lot more scenes than most of them.
He's got a lot of problems.
And I don't want to embarrass him.
That's for sure.
When we were in West Virginia, she said, she couldn't stop the car, and she was in the whole room and said, I just want you to thank Mrs. Nixon for writing me.
I was the West Virginia Teacher of the Year last year.
Find out, and this is in Elkins, West Virginia.
I don't know whether she was in Elkins.
in West Virginia, or if I wrote it, I don't know what it was.
But I need a little help with my goat children.
I appreciate your remarks.
I appreciate your...
I started seeing her in West Virginia, and I was really sorry.
Well, let's wait until we find out where he is and what's his score.
He's going to get out there and pitch or else.
Too many of our captains are always out singing their own phrases.
Take a look at the artists.
They all come out sounding great and not really backing up the rest.
They like it to come.
Richardson, too.
That's why he gets a better press than Mitch did, because he's not known as your man.
He really doesn't stand up.
Sometimes he does, but...
Every article he comes out sounding very...
I think he's done some of them.
It won't be probably, although I never hear anybody take either of them seriously.
Where they really praise you.
I don't think these guys are even in the South.
Well, doesn't the most common thing of all the Democrats?
I told you.
I told you.
It's not better.
Well, Rogers is better.
You never hear Laird, you never hear Rogers.
Martin Prage is no one but himself.
I can't believe it, because he's got a nothing ear.
And he goes around a lot.
He makes a lot of speeches.
He makes a lot of speeches, and he just talks about what he's doing.
What he's doing, and he's on the planet, and he was a completely separate...
There are a lot of events that make you think, you know, they're just rotten.
SANS tries.
SANS does try, and of course I'm still there to make fun of SANS.
They're fantastic.
They've got a lot of money.
We're still trading on the people who got it.
Everybody went a little rushed.
I've got a set of vocabulary before I go on this trade week.
So they came in here.
And I just put it right out there.
We've got to reward our friends.
Because they, you know, he had sort of over the years, in between and everything, Larry was a good friend.
This is just going to be a long time.
He appointed Chasey without even checking with you and Chasey shouldn't have even had the time of day.
He appoints everyone.
Despite what you want or might want, he doesn't even change.
And then in Austin, what, six months ago, he was not going to be, he was going to be, no matter which way the election went, he was going to retire or something.
Yeah.
That's the solution to this.
Yeah.
So I called Katie and called yesterday.
I wanted to talk with you, and I told you we're with people, as you were.
I'm always with people.
And so he talked with me.
He said, of course, Cook was terribly put out about the Supreme Court decision on education.
And I said, well, Cook knows that they've had no better supporters than the president.
And he said, well, he was wondering if there's any consideration going to be given to a tax deduction for people who send their children to private schools.
And I said, well, I don't even know what that problem involves.
Everybody screams, and it just helps the rich.
Well, it isn't just that.
There's a constitutional problem.
I knew it was a great court decision.
It's a question of action.
You could just tell all kids that there's a specific answer that the legislature has under these, and Congress on this, are studying that problem, and my recommendation.
I know.
And of course, it's like, and I don't think they can keep the Catholic schools open forever.
Because it's just too hard.
You see, you don't have a situation where the nuns and the rest of your students do it for nothing.
That's right, and there aren't enough nuns now.
See, the church is suffering from that, too.
There aren't enough people.
Oh, they have to hire people.
Or what did you say, that Jesus on the way had a cross?
Or where on earth?
You know what else was funny?
He's sending back to me.
When he opened, you know you gave them all the silver.
See, I had a dollar.
You didn't have his?
Yeah.
You know what was inside of him?
A $50 bill.
They were not rats, they were as they were, so I don't know, maybe, I'm just trying to find out whether it came from trade or something.
Somebody was drinking or something.
But if I don't find any, it's going in our city, can't it?
Somebody was, somebody was... And just pulled it in?
My God, those things were just...
I know, they weren't even rats without side-wrapping, I understand, because it's got, there's a seal on it.
I haven't seen it until I asked to see one.
No, there isn't.
That's his money or something.
He had a lot to drink that night.
Maybe he didn't.
Somebody made it with something.
Maybe he took the $50 and sent it back.
By the way...
But he sent it back.
So I'm not supposed to pay the tax.
You know what you say about Roger, one of your soldiers?
I'm not there with you, but I was disappointed.
He never said anything.
His clients are off.
He doesn't speak up.
Well, and he should say, when he goes, any one of these cabinet members who go to take credit for what they're doing should say,
You know, the administration with the president wants us to do all these conservation things.
And it's just not good.
I don't understand.
I told you I didn't tell Bob that I was shocked.
I figured that was the way to get back to more than one time.
On the route to California, the day before I was picked up, I contacted him.
I told her, I said, tell Bob, not the Bob, the English one, I said that I'm absolutely shocked because he should know better.
I see all his write-ups and I see what he does.
He never mentions anyone but himself.
And I told Patty, I don't hear this in the press, he never attacks anybody or anything.
At least I've sued him a little bit and he'll say something.
I'm amazed because I said, of all the people, I thought Morton, having been a congressman and being in the National Committee, would realize that this is a team effort.
If the Nixon name doesn't keep going out on some people, it's not going to do any good for Morton.
And I told her to remind me, I had Bob remind me, that you went around the country doing the Eisenhower administration.
Every word was right.
Well, I told her that I thought Morton ought to be somebody to serve the other pastors.
Yes.
Frankly, I must say, I haven't built that very well.
It's difficult for him with everybody saying he has no job.
Well, I understand Henry is a difficult man.
Henry is brave and actually indispensable.
But Henry is, Henry on the other hand, is terrible to work with.
I'm the first to admit it.
He's always running on everybody except himself.
He just can't help it.
And I can tell he's done pretty well, because he's never, I haven't heard anything publicly, and it can't be easy.
That's not an easy role.
Oh, Jesus Christ.
I'm tired.
I'm tired.
I'm tired.
Well, I didn't mean it.
I think we have to credit Bill with taking this.
I don't know.
It's all math and money over there.
She does that Liberian thing.
That would be just a pen.
So if there are events, otherwise, frankly, for Liberia, for the Negroes, it would look great if she made a special trip to go to that operation.
It wouldn't be part of the law, but she's clear about that.
There was someone in the country that said she was going to have a celebration too, and she does one of those.
That's what I mean.
Because it wouldn't...
I'm not sure if the blacks sound just like the Jews.
What did you do for me yesterday?
I'm not looking for the blacks.
You didn't look at us one gun at a time.
But what I meant is, with the damn Jews.
They want the president to be, you know, of all the people who have been crying, you know what I mean?
The young church, the little bachelors of college are always, you know, being about, well, what are we doing about the blacks?
At least we do that to an extent.
I mean, listen, I know there are black people in the church.
It's just the same theory we all believe in.
They said, well they really all, the ones who are so bad are really against this country.
They just want to use this country to build up business.
There's a degree where Israel is turning them away.
There's the blacks.
Those people landed over there trying to settle there, and they won't let them in the country.
We'll definitely do something.
Although, of course, there are a lot of other kids.
We've got a drill out of having that in the paper, I think.
Well, there's no problem with getting a legend out of it.
It's just, uh... Well, I've been trying to do a little bit of this today.
Yeah.
Why don't we see the... You know, I'm surprised that...
I don't remember if they changed the suit or... Well, I'll come to tell you again.
Say they cut them down.
Well, maybe he meant, maybe it was a different pattern, but all they did was reduce it.
Well, they cut it down, but...
I'll come to tell you.
But let me say, I think I would...
Wait, let me get the...
When you start changing coats sometimes, the lining doesn't work.
And I'll just get some, because I should get some coats anyway.
I need to go, what I was really wanting to do was to change my lightweights.
And I was there, so I was like, you're going to change me, but I'll just get some more lightweights.
Yeah, he said he'll have them.
But I'm a good cop, good cop.
See, they get that to know me because they do it head to head.
I know.
Yeah, and I thought about this kid.
I just wanted you to see his picture.
Actually, the fact that he's showcased with you and got his picture in paper, he's, you know, he's had enough of that.
But I thought it was cute.
No, there are lots and lots and lots of things that go out of here.
See, there's people on all kinds of things.
Most of the tickets go out by then, you know, there's a lot of other things.
One question, have you put Butterfield instead of me in charge of Gettysburg?
No, no.
We haven't made a change.
What guest list was on it?
For dinners.
For dinners?
No, no, no, we were trying for guest lists.
Okay.
But the only time that he did one of them was when we had that, uh, that, uh, special segment or something here in the city, the city environment actually.
Yeah, maybe it was that.
The city environment.
Well, I sent a list over, and we already had too many people, and he added three names to it without even consulting me, and I just wanted to know what they were doing.
I just wanted the detail coming up.
And I'll talk to him about it, but I didn't want to talk to him if he has been put in charge, because if he has, I'm going to have to hold him back.
What was the situation?
How was it heard from you, Laura?
Well, it's always been that they all send us, but no, he gives names that you give, I guess.
He gives a couple.
Maybe I'm the interesting one.
I have no idea.
Colson sends in his list, and Cashin, and they all send in their list, and then we put as many as we possibly can, you know, squeeze on each one.
And it's not easy to do these.
He had a Mr. and Mrs. Bob Brown, and Harry Baldwin, not her mother, Bob's mother.
Bob Brown's been at one state dinner, at four after dinner entertainments.
And Mrs. Haldeman's been at the two or three church things and at the December party, you know, the special party for close friends last year.
It isn't even who it is, but it's the pastor.
He's called over and added them without even checking.
And we are over.
We have to hope and we're sitting here praying that people will regret it.
And I just don't, I just can't work that way.
If somebody else is going to call and add names and then, because we have some, Colson wanted to get Mr. and Mrs. Victor right out.
He wanted to particularly be here, but he's got an inactive Elizabeth Ann.
I think it's much more important to get Vic right out than it is Bob Branson.
Bob Branson paid damn well.
All right, you'll find Colson's very, very neat.
He works hard to get them in, but he's... Well, but I thought, yes or no, but see, we're holding ourselves if someone, if we get enough regrets, because that came in late.
But... We've had... We've had...
He particularly wants to come.
He'll even come to the extra dinner for this.
But it's just that I don't think somebody else...
I can't work if somebody else can call and put three people on when we're already over and holding...
Shirley Temple Black was entertained by Tito and those people and she wanted to come and she should come.
They should come before Bob Brown and before I was involved.
I can't get her on that.
All I want to know is, I don't want to start anything, but I want to talk to her about it.
All right.
I don't want you to do anything.
I just want to know that, you know, I don't want to do something I'm not supposed to do, but I don't want to do anything.
And what we do is just try terribly hard to get the people that you want and that everybody thinks should get in and get a feel of each other.
Okay.
Everybody tries to get his own piece.
I know, they all do.
We, for example, we can't, for example, church things, I don't know, they're wandering.
Or, you know, the dentist side, you know, I'm not enough.
You know, sort of the other types.
There's just a reason that Harry's a persistent bum, which is to his credit, but others should be just as persistent.
Yeah, and I don't see those lists, like, before they're out.
But last week, I didn't even know, you know, they had Joe Lewis on, and they had the same, the reason he wasn't on it was because of this.
They had it spelled Joe, L-E-W-I-S, and I saw that address at Las Vegas, and I know that hotel is run by the Mastys.
And I thought, oh my heavens, who is that?
Is that a member?
And so then I read the society page, because it was late, and they were going to come in here.
Otherwise, we would have been on their special letters.
Billy Graham, he's the one, he was here because he got very tired shaking hands.
These special agents.
He says, that's what they all like, of course they like.
That kid likes it.
There are 200 million people, they'd all love it, but I shouldn't shake hands with these people now.
Coming through that line this time, they had the policemen, the Secret Service, two or three military people from the military AIDS office, three or four from two or three other offices.
Do the cabinet people come through every time?
That doesn't bother me, because they usually come through with important people.
And some of them, sometimes they don't, but my mind is rose.
You just can't...
I should be spending that time, basically, let's face it, I love to do things for this man, I know that for sure, but I'm not justified, I'm not justified in meeting, for example, somebody from the protection service and six of his kids.
Staying out there and not meeting somebody like that in your cell, that's what your reading is down to.
Well, that's right.
I think if they come in, you...
As you do, very graciously, always open the thing and welcome them.
I open it, and God will give the minister.
And that's not a thing that we can do.
Just open it, and God will give the minister.
And then, after we got out of heaven, always take the upstairs door, and we'll go to the third floor and have some tea.
And that, I was very sure as I held him and he gave him a rose.
I think what you should do at the end of it is thank them for being there.
If Pat wants to shake hands with them, say that you now have to go, you know, you have to attend a meeting or something.
Well, I guess we're going to have to cut all these things down.
We aired it from my apartment.
I'm coming and going.
I didn't think about it.
I'm going to see what it means.
Do we have to shake hands with the people that come after dinner?
I think we have to.
Terrible pain in the neck.
Uncle, I don't really think you have to.
I guess everybody else has to do.
Well, I'll tell you what happens if you don't.
You know, I said, well, don't do that expensive job anymore.
Yes, in fact, I love that, too, because there are people who fly all over the country.
You know what happens every time.
Some of the lack of energy will come in, and they're usually administrating something.
And by God, they can never get back up and grab me.
And our people don't know how the hell to handle them.
See?
Well, um...
I think that's a good reason to take cancer from here.
The deaths are a total waste of time.
It's too bad they can't stop.
A total waste of time.
I hate them all.
Every one of them.
Every damn one of them.
Well, they have champagne downstairs, and they usually have somebody act as host, and then take them up.
I don't know.
If we get, if we have people from out of town, they're fairly important people.
We haven't sent that list over yet.
Correct.
Yeah.
For instance, Romney would like to bring the Minister of Housing for after-dinner, because Spain is here.
Romney's not coming to the dinner?
Romney's coming to the dinner.
I put him on the teacher.
Oh, I told him there's no room.
Because, and I also told him, we do not invite people, national, from another country to a dinner for teacher on other days, you know.
I don't know.
We have done an excellent job.
We did some things, haven't we?
We have covered really good things.
It's amazing how many people have been in his White House.
We've had particularly in his office.
We've had everybody in his office, haven't we, now?
Probably the church.
That's about pretty good, isn't it?
I think.
Before that, we had Blair.
You had Blair at dinner and a change.
Yeah.
And all of them.
Because they don't rank for dinner.
They really don't.
None of them.
That's why, like Bob Brown, our people don't go to state dinners.
We don't have our plan out there for state dinners.
Only the ones who have cabinet rank.
And I don't think we should.
People are sitting here.
They're not here to be going to dinners.
Unless there's a good reason for them to help out at the dinner.
They shouldn't be there.
Maybe the trees will create the kind of life
Well, dammit, I invited three blacks that Bob Brown gave me.
That's the best one.
I'll talk with him, but I just wanted...
I didn't want to step on any of your head of rank.
No, you just say that I'm sorry, but the thing is still... Well, he went over my head and had them send out a relationship, but that's why I'm saying hop on.
Because we can't do that.
We can't have two people being the final ten in the morning.
