Norris Cotton was a Republican United States Senator from New Hampshire, serving from November 1954 until his resignation in December 1974. A close personal friend of Richard Nixon since they entered Congress together in 1947, Cotton was a staunch conservative ally to the president during the White House taping period (February 1971 – July 1973). In January 1973, Cotton's influence expanded when he became Chair of the Senate Republican Conference, a key leadership role he held until December 1974.
