Hugh Scott was a Republican U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania who served as the Senate Minority Leader during the majority of the Nixon administration, including the entirety of the White House taping period (February 1971 – July 1973). He initially served as Senate Minority Whip starting in January 1969, but was elevated to Minority Leader in September 1969 following the death of Everett Dirksen. In this leadership role, Scott frequently met with President Nixon to discuss legislative priorities and eventually played a pivotal role in advising Nixon to resign in August 1974 as Watergate eroded his congressional support.
