Colson, Charles W.

Charles W. Colson served as Special Counsel to the President from November 1969 to March 1973, and concurrently as the Director of the Office of Public Liaison from July 1970 to March 1973. During the White House taping period, Colson acted as Richard Nixon's ruthless political point man and "hatchet man," compiling the infamous "Enemies List" in 1971 and helping establish the White House Plumbers to discredit political opponents. He held both positions until his resignation in March 1973, when he transitioned out of the administration to return to private law practice just before the Watergate scandal fully erupted.
