Haig, Alexander M., Jr.

Alexander M. Haig, Jr. began his service in the Nixon administration as a military assistant to National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger from January 1969 to June 1970, before being promoted to Deputy Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. He held this deputy role for the majority of the White House taping period, from June 1970 until January 1973, when he transitioned to the Pentagon to become Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army. As the Watergate scandal forced the resignation of H.R. Haldeman, Nixon recalled Haig to serve as White House Chief of Staff from May 1973 until the president's resignation in August 1974.
