Moorer, Thomas H. (Adm.)

Admiral Thomas H. Moorer began the Nixon administration as Chief of Naval Operations, a post he held from August 1967 until July 1970. In July 1970, President Nixon elevated him to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, making him the nation's top military officer throughout the White House taping period until his retirement in July 1974. In this capacity, Moorer frequently advised Nixon on Vietnam War strategy, including the 1972 mining of Haiphong Harbor, and was notably implicated in the Moorer-Radford affair involving the unauthorized transfer of classified National Security Council documents to the Pentagon.
