Rogers, William P.

William P. Rogers served as the United States Secretary of State from January 1969 to September 1973, encompassing the entirety of the Nixon White House taping period. Despite his senior cabinet rank, Rogers was frequently sidelined by President Nixon and National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger, who routinely bypassed the State Department to conduct secret back-channel negotiations regarding China, Vietnam, and the Soviet Union. Nevertheless, Rogers remained a key diplomatic figure during this era, focusing on Middle East peace initiatives and officially signing the Paris Peace Accords in January 1973.
